The label MIKA MODIGGÅRD balances on the fine line between street wear and strictly dressed fashion. The Scandinavian touch is apparent but by bringing in influences from street wear and hiphop, a twist is given to the traditional minimalistic style. Using organic materials and ethical production is important to the label and does not collide with the desire to make experimental fashion. This ecological philosophy keeps the label relevant to today’s market where the production and sustainability should be just as important as the items produced. Designer Mika Modiggård was born in Stockholm, Sweden and resided there until she moved to Berlin 2007. It was in Berlin she developed a more experimental relationship with fashion and established a philosophy for her brand. Before moving to Berlin, Mika alternated designing her own brand with assisting the Swedish designer Ulrika Sandström. Mika’s motto is: fashion – but not at any price. She wants the people working with her and buying her clothes to do so under conditions of decency; all the way from the cotton fields to the store vendor and customers that wears her clothes. Same thing goes with all the projects she’s involved in.
